Southwest Arts Festival — Sun and Art
The Southwest Arts Festival enthralled visitors for four days this year (http://www.discoverindio.com/southwest-arts-festival). Thankfully, perfect weather blessed the whole festival. In fact, the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce has produced this show for 31 years. As always, the Empire Polo Club provided a perfect venue. In particular, good attendance and first rate art combined elegantly. Our two years in this show have encouraged us to look forward to many more.
Indio the City of Festivals
Forbes magazine called the Coachella Valley one of America’s wealthiest areas. Truly, winter vacationers from Canada and the northern U.S. love the City of Festivals. Surprisingly, 13 golf courses are nestled in the city. One of these, the Terra Lago public golf club is the second largest par-3 executive course in the country. More than this, the city maintains 20 parks and the National Park Service manages the nearby San Jacinto National Monument. Not withstanding, the Chamber of Commerce identifies Indio as the “City of Festivals”. Indeed, the prominent annual National Date Festival is home to the Arabian Nights Musical Pageant. In addition, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival delight music enthusiasts. Certainly, rain is almost never a threat — the annual average is only 3 inches!
A Most Pleasant Winter Wonderland
The All American Canal transformed Indio into a winter vacation wonderland. This 80 mile long waterway is now fully concrete lined. Surprisingly, this is the largest irrigation canal in the world. In addition, Indio enjoys the warmest winter climate east of the Rocky Mountains. Indeed, most of the valley is below sea level. As a result, the valley has enjoyed unprecedented growth. Notably, much of this growing enthusiasm energizes the festival scene. How fortunate we are to be involved in the Southwestern Arts Festival!
