Sisters Harvest Faire — A Journey Back in Time
Sisters, Oregon is a magical place at all times of the year. However, with the first frosts, the beauty intensifies. In particular, the Sisters Harvest Faire, (http://www.sisterscountry.com) October 14 and 15, 2017, has captivated us every year since we first exhibited 13 years ago. Importantly, remember your coat in the morning but it will be shirt sleeve weather by noon. Incidentally, some years we have had patches of morning ice in the shade yet in the sunshine it was most pleasant. Still, the yellow color of the aspen contrasting with the red bark of the old growth Ponderosa pine paints a wonderful landscape.

Sisters has always been special
This is the smallest community we exhibit in all year and was also the first weekend show we signed up. Specifically, the town’s population of a little over two thousand belies the preeminence of art and crafts. There is at least one outdoor art show in town every month spring through fall. In addition, there are over a dozen Sister’s art galleries open year. Undoubtedly, my favorite is The Jewel established in 1991 by Jan Daggett. I always enter the shop in awe of the innovative designs and creative use of materials. Without a doubt a trip to Sisters is a joy.
Sister Harvest Faire is now a tradition on our schedule
Sisters is the classic high Oregon desert sagebrush and Ponderosa pine ecosystem. Historically, this site was the junction of the wagon roads over McKenzie and Santiam Passes. Moreover, the town, with an elevation of 3182 feet, established a post office in 1888 and became an official townsite in 1901. During the early 20th century it was a lumber-producing town but the last sawmill closed in 1963. Consequently, in the early 1970’s, Sisters passed an ordinance requiring 1880’s style store fronts. Now the magic is complete. Stroll among the Harvest Faire vendors and step back in time.
